What is Bioequivalent Hormone Therapy?
Bioequivalent hormone therapy is the same thing as bio-identical hormone therapy, but the FDA prefers the former term. A person’s hormones are at their most balanced when they are in their 30s. People that age generally enjoy excellent health and the attendant benefits, such as an ability to sleep soundly. The aging process, however, gradually upsets that balance, and menopause throws it out of whack. Consequently, older women develop health issues like osteoporosis or heart disease. They gain weight and start to have trouble sleeping.
During a woman’s reproductive years, the ovaries produce the hormones estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. From the mid-30’s on, however, they produce less and less, and the patient gradually develops health problems associated with aging.
During a patient’s first visit, we will take their medical history and examine them to determine their overall health. We will then recommend the hormones the patient needs and the amounts they should take, if hormone therapy is determined to be a good option.
What is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue that makes up the uterine wall grows on other organs. While the abnormal tissue can grow anywhere, it usually grows within the abdomen or pelvic area. While some women in Cincinnati don’t experience any symptoms at all, others suffer abdominal pain, difficulty getting pregnant, pain during intercourse, and/or pain during menstruation.
When a gynecologist suspects endometriosis, a laparoscopy may be performed, which is a surgery in which the doctor inserts a camera through the abdominal wall to examine the area. We can then treat endometriosis either through a procedure or various medications.
