Chemical Peels

chemical peels

The journey towards beautiful skin can feel tedious and impossible. However, there are ways to achieve that envy-worthy skin and improve your appearance without much effort on your part. At Premiere Center for Health and Wellness in Cincinnati, OH, we know that beautiful skin takes hard work, which is why we offer different chemical peels that can help perfect your skin and keep it glowing from one month to the next.

How Long Do Results Last After Getting Chemical Peels?

When you choose to add chemical peels to your skincare routine, you can expect your results to last different amounts of time, based on which peel you choose. Lighter peels deliver results that last for one to two months, and then another treatment will help redeliver those same results and continue to improve your skin health and overall appearance.

Medium peels are a little stronger and deliver results that last for two to six months, at which that point, we can perform another light or medium peel to maintain those results. Most strong peels should only be performed a few times a year because they contain such a powerful concentration of ingredients, but their results typically last for years. Regardless of which peel you choose, you will get long-lasting results, and your skin will improve.

Making Your Results Last Longer

Investing in a professional skincare line that includes high-quality and nutrient-dense skincare products will help your peel results last longer and make those results look even better. Once you remove that top layer of dead skin cells, your skin will be better able to absorb high-quality products, which will help create the change in your skin that you long to see.

At your peel appointment, one of our skincare experts can recommend the right products that will help extend your results and build upon the foundation that these peels will lay.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a skincare treatment that uses a combination of acids and other anti-aging ingredients to chemically exfoliate the skin. There are peels of different strengths designed to target specific skin conditions and improve the skin. Based on the strength of the peel, it can remove one or more layers of the skin to reveal fresh, youthful skin beneath.

What Does It Treat?

Peels are designed to treat skin imperfections. They can improve the appearance of different skin issues, including sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, melasma, poor skin tone and texture, and dull skin. The deeper the peel, the more dramatic the change in the skin.

Light peels will give you results, but deep peels reach deeper into the skin and create a more drastic change. However, many people cannot handle deep peels because of their skin types, so different strength peels can help address different skin types and needs.

Our Chemical Peels

At Premiere Center for Health and Wellness, we offer chemical peels by the trusted and highly esteemed professional skincare line, SkinMedica. Our medical professionals administer these rejuvenating peels, which can take years off of your face and completely transform your skin over time. Our three SkinMedica peels can help all patients with different skin types and needs improve their skin and get that post-peel radiant glow.

The Illuminize Peel

This peel is the lightest and is safe for use on patients of all different skin types. It is called a superficial peel because it only addresses the top layer of the skin and does not result in any peeling. If you have sensitive skin and have always thought that chemical peels were not an option for you, think again. This peel is safe for everyone, including those with sensitive skin.

Since this peel is the gentlest of the three peels, it is a good option for those who have never had a peel before and don’t want to experience any downtime. Patients can undergo this peel every two weeks, and it typically takes approximately three treatments to achieve desired results. Regular treatments can help address mild skin problems, imperfections and improve skin tone and texture. It will make your skin look brighter and give you that glow without any downtime.

The Vitalize Peel

This peel is designed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and it helps repair sun damage. It gives you smoother skin by improving skin texture and restores balance to the skin by revitalizing it, improving the overall skin condition, and improving skin clarity. The Vitalize Peel can be performed every three to four weeks, and it may take three to six treatments to achieve your desired results.

It all depends on your skin condition at the time of treatment and your ultimate skin goals. Typical treatments take 20 minutes to complete, and your esthetician will review the treatment details with you before you begin.

The Rejuvenize Peel

The Rejuvenize Peel is the strongest and most powerful peel. It contains a combination of effective ingredients that can reach deep into the layers of the skin and restore youth, skin health, and repair sun damage.

It can also improve the appearance of melasma, acne scars, and acne, and smooth the skin to restore youth. The Rejuvenize Peel is the strongest of our peels and will create the most change by improving imperfections and addressing problematic skin conditions.

Chemical Peels: Frequently Asked Questions

Which Peel Is Right for Me?

You may know without a doubt what your problem areas are, but you may not be sure of the best way to treat them. That is the importance of an initial consultation. Before we choose the best peel for you, we will need to see your skin and problem areas in person, analyze your skin condition, and then discuss your skin type and skincare history to choose which of these three peels will best help you meet all of your skincare goals.

Is There Any Downtime?

Light peels like the Illuminize Peel do not require any downtime. Deeper peels require minimal downtime in regards to how your skin will look and feel post-treatment. As a general rule of thumb, the deeper the peel, the more aftercare requirements you will need to follow to protect your skin and get the best results.

However, even though there is a minimal amount of downtime associated with deeper peels, you can rest assured that it will not significantly affect your schedule. You will still be able to resume most of your normal daily activities, and you won’t have to take any time off of work.

Will I Peel?

Not every peel will cause visible peeling on your skin’s surface. Generally, the stronger the peel is, the high the chance of peeling skin. Before you begin treatment, we will tell you exactly what you can expect with your chosen peel and whether or not your skin will experience any post-treatment peeling.

If this does happen, you can rest assured that it is completely normal; it means that the process is working. We always remind patients not to pick at their skin or speed the peeling process along by manually removing the peeling skin because it can lead to skin damage and scarring.

What About At-Home Peels?

For every in-office skincare treatment, someone somewhere has produced a DIY version that you can perform at home. However, when it comes to at-home chemical peels, it is not safe, nor would we recommend performing a peel at home. These products are only sold to licensed professionals for a reason. It takes a skilled and experienced esthetician to apply a chemical peel and understand everything that must take place during the process.

Performing a DIY chemical peel at home can lead to some unwanted side effects and even skin damage. When you choose our office for your skincare needs, you can rest assured that you will be treated by a professional who understands how to choose the best peel for your skin and how to effectively apply that peel to deliver you the best and safest results possible.

What Happens During a Treatment?

Typical treatments take as long as your standard facial, though your appointment time may vary based on whether you choose to add other treatments to your chemical peel. Typically, peels are applied and removed within a 20-minute window.

You may feel a tingling sensation on your skin’s surface, but our offices are equipped with the necessary cooling mechanisms to help you maintain optimal comfort during the treatment. Once the peel sits on your skin for the required amount of time, your esthetician will carefully remove the peel and provide you with any aftercare instructions.

Are There Any Aftercare Instructions?

One of the most important things you can do post-treatment is protecting your skin from the sun. Before a chemical peel, you will have an extra layer of skin protecting your face from the elements. When the acids in these peels remove that top layer, your fresh new layer will appear, but it will be more exposed and more vulnerable to the sun’s damaging rays.

Therefore, you must apply high-quality sunscreen to your skin whenever you are exposed to the sun. Vigilant sun protection will ensure that you do not damage that new, younger, fresh skin and put it at risk for developing fine lines or wrinkles.

Avoiding Certain Products and Investing in Some New Ones

Additionally, you should avoid exfoliating treatments and harsh topical products post-treatment since they can irritate your skin and cause inflammation during the healing process. Your esthetician will provide you with a complete list of topicals to avoid and can also make recommendations of other skincare products from this trusted, professional skincare line that will help nourish and hydrate your skin in the days following treatment.

Am I a Candidate?

The benefit of our SkinMedica peels is that almost everyone is a candidate for one of them. Whether you have extremely sensitive skin or have more significant skin damage that you want to address, there is a peel that will help you reach your skin goals.

Some individuals may be temporarily excluded from treatment due to safety precautions. Pregnant and nursing women will not qualify for treatment. Also, those with certain health or skin conditions may not be the best candidates. We can confirm your candidacy for a chemical peel during your initial consultation and choose which one will work best for you.
