Understanding Hormone Pellets: How Do They Work?

hormone pellet therapy

A hormonal imbalance will negatively affect your emotional, physical, sexual, and mental health, whether you’re aware of it or not. Hormonal imbalances often result in one or more symptoms, indicating that the body isn’t producing the necessary hormones to promote optimal hormonal health and overall well-being. At Premier Center for Health and Wellness in Cincinnati, OH, we offer hormone pellet therapy, a treatment that uses bioidentical hormones to safely and naturally restore hormonal balance to the body.

Understanding Hormone Pellet Therapy: How Does It Work?

Hormone pellets provide a simple yet effective way to treat a hormonal imbalance. Unlike other treatment methods, there’s no work required on the patient’s part. This method doesn’t require that patients administer hormone injections every week, apply topical hormone creams, or take daily oral hormone pills.

These pellets are implanted just below the skin’s surface into the fatty tissue on the hip or buttocks, where they are slowly absorbed by the bloodstream. The body uses the exact amount of hormones necessary in the pellet to restore balance to the system, improve hormonal health, and alleviate negative symptoms.

Why It Works

The pellets used in hormone pellet therapy are made of bioidentical hormones, meaning they are nearly identical to the natural testosterone, estrogen, and other hormones the body produces. Therefore, when implanted below the skin’s surface, the body accepts them and treats them as natural hormones.

Because the ingredients in the pellets are made with natural ingredients, patients don’t need to worry about any negative reaction but instead can undergo treatment and enjoy the benefits of balanced hormones. Men will benefit from increased testosterone levels and improved hormone health, and women will be able to maintain balance and ward off the effects of menopause.

What Does It Treat?

Hormone pellet therapy treats the most common symptoms of an imbalance affecting both men and women together and independently. It increases testosterone levels in men and balances hormones in women to improve quality of life and overall health. We use hormone pellets to resolve the following symptoms:

  • Night sweats
  • Hot flashes
  • Frequent headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Weight gain
  • Inability to gain or maintain lean muscle mass
  • Brain fog
  • Low energy
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Poor quality hair and skin
  • Irritability
  • Moodiness
  • Low libido

What Are the Treatment Benefits?

Patients who begin a customized hormone therapy treatment with pellets plan can expect improvements in their symptoms. For every negative symptom you’ve experienced, you’ll enjoy the opposite benefit after balancing your hormones. Some of the most common benefits that patients experience after beginning pellet therapy include the following:

  • Increased sex drive
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improved hair and skin
  • Emotional stability
  • Improved quality sleep
  • Improve sexual health and function
  • Reduced headaches
  • Increased lean muscle mass
  • Healthy weight loss

What Happens During a Treatment?

We will begin the treatment by cleansing your skin and applying a numbing cream to the area. Then, we’ll make a small incision, typically in the fatty tissue of the hip or buttocks, and insert the pellet into the area. We’ll complete the treatment by closing the tiny incision with a small suture.

The process is quick, comfortable, and only takes a few minutes to complete. Once the treatment is over, we’ll give you more information about how to care for the insertion site in the days following your treatment.

Is There Downtime?

After undergoing pellet therapy, you can resume most of your normal daily activities, but you will need to follow some specific aftercare instructions to avoid disrupting the newly implanted pellet and allow your skin to heal.

What To Avoid

You’ll need to temporarily avoid lower-body workouts, as certain exercises could interfere with the healing process and disrupt the newly implanted pellet. Walking is allowed, but you will need to avoid strenuous lower-body activities. If you do plan to work out, stick to upper-body exercises that won’t pull or stretch at the incision location.

You’ll also need to avoid baths, hot tubs, and swimming pools for the first several days. As long as you follow all of the aftercare instructions, you’ll ensure that the pellet incision location heals quickly and that the pellet begins to deliver hormones to your bloodstream so you can feel all the benefits of the treatment process and have balanced hormones.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Most patients undergoing this treatment process need two treatments annually. The frequency with which you schedule follow-up treatments depends on how quickly your body uses the hormones in your unique dosage.

When you come in for your consultation, and we confirm your treatment and eligibility and design your treatment plan, we’ll give you more information about what to expect from the process and how many follow-up treatments you’ll need yearly to achieve the best results and maintain balanced hormone levels.

When Will I Notice the Results?

Results will vary based on the patient, the severity of their hormone deficiency, and how their body responds to the treatment process. Some patients feel the effects of the treatment within the first few weeks. Regardless, when you undergo this treatment, you will notice positive changes and all the benefits of establishing and maintaining hormonal balance and improving hormone health.

How Long Will My Results Last?

The results of this treatment last for several months, which is why it’s become so popular among men who need to increase testosterone and women who need to undergo treatment to balance their hormone levels before, during, or after menopause.

The length of the results varies based on each patient because your body works with the pellet and uses the exact amount of hormones necessary to maintain balance. During stress, your body will use more hormones from the pellet than when you are in a low-stress state. Typically, the results last six months, after which a follow-up treatment is necessary to maintain hormonal balance.
