A chemical peel is a cosmetic treatment used to treat a variety of skin conditions. Chemical peels come in a variety of strengths ranging from superficial peels that remove just the epidermis to deep peels that penetrate partway through the dermis. Chemical peels should only be applied by a qualified and experienced medical professional.
What is SkinMedica®?
SkinMedica® is a line of skin care products produced by the company Allergan, which bought the line in 2012. SkinMedica® made its debut in 1999. One of the line’s co-founders was the dermatologist Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick, who wanted to develop products that would heal the skin from within and slow down the aging process.
SkinMedica® Chemical Peels
SkinMedica® currently produces three chemical peels: Illuminize, Vitalize and Rejuvenize. Unlike many chemical peels, they can be used on all skin types and colors. They can even be used on clients with dark skin!
Illuminize is the mildest type; it is a superficial chemical peel. It can be used on patients getting their first chemical peel, and it is used to treat minor blemishes. It can also make the skin brighter and more radiant. Clients who want more than one treatment should wait a set amount of time before getting a subsequent treatment.
The Vitalize Peel is a popular treatment for melasma, sun damage and acne. It improves coloring and stimulates collagen production. While even one treatment produces visible results, most patients require a series of treatments for optimal results.
The Rejuvenize Peel is the strongest peel offered by SkinMedica®. It is used to treat wrinkles, fine lines, uneven texture and coloring, as well as damage caused by sun exposure.
